A Regency Shako Plate to the 20th or East Devonshire Regiment of Foot
Comprising a circular fire gilt plate upon which rests a gilt Hanovarian crown. In the centre of the circlet in silver (white metal ) are the Roman numerals XX surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves. Above this are battle honours for Minden and Maida and below Peninsula.
This particular example is a cast version presumably made whilst on foreign service. The rear of the plate shows good overspill of fire gilt which is virtually impossible to replicate today and therefore I am confident that this is a contemporary example of this very rare shako plate.
An exceedingly rare first pattern Regency shako plate to the 20th or East Devonshire Regiment of Foot circa 1820.
