A Portrait miniature of a Dragoon Guards Officer circa 1830ís
An outstanding English school portrait miniature of an unidentified officer in the 2nd or Queens Dragoon Guards circa 1830ís in a contemporary gilt and gesso frame with part makers label to the reverse.
We can accurately date this portrait miniature to the 1830ís as a result of the sitterís high collar and hair style which were typical characteristicís in military dress during this period. The sitterís shoulder belt also has the distinctive lace design of the 2nd Dragoon Guards who shared this design with the 7th Dragoon Guards but had white edging instead of black velvet as worn by the 7th.
The miniaturist clearly had a very capable hand and whilst unidentified we suspect was probably a very prominent artist in his day.
