A 53rd or Shropshire Regiment of Foot Officers Belltop Shako Plate
A very rare officer’s 53rd or Shropshire Regiment of Foot belltop shako plate worn between 1829 and 1844. On the universal fire gilt star plate sits a silver ( white metal ) hobnail eight pointed star over which rests a gilt maltese cross.
On each of the four arms the following battle honours are shown Peninsula, Nieuport, St.Lucia, Salamanca, Toulouse, Nivelle, Tournay, Pyrenees, Talavera and Vittoria. In the centre is a circlet with the name Shropshire Regiment and within this the arabic numerals for 53rd over a silvered disc.
The reverse of the plate has fixing loops on either side of the crown and a fixing loop at the bottom of the plate with two eyelet fixing lugs on either side of the universal plate. The plate shows age discolouration and has fire gilt overspill .
The plate is in exceptional condition.
