The silver plated skull is ornamented with a band of laurel leaves to the front in gilt and bound around the edge with gilt trim edging. Above this sits a twelve pointed gilt “hob nail” star upon which rests an oval title strap with the words Inniskilling Dragoons and surmounted in the centre with the castle of Inniskilling and below this the roman numerals VI. The gilt spike supports a white horse hair plume with a rose boss ornament. On each side of the helmet are rose pattern ear bosses which serve to secure the velvet lined chin chain to the helmet.
The front and rear peaks are lined with green leather skiver which is in good condition for its age and the interior is lined with a padded silk headband. Overall the helmet is in very good condition with minor signs of wear commensurate with its age.
