A 56th or (West Essex) Regiment of Foot Officer’s Shoulder Belt Plate circa 1830
A very scarce 56th or West Essex Regiment of Foot Officer’s shoulder belt plate worn between 1830 and 1855.
The burnished gilt oblong plate has the design of a castle and key within a laurel wreath with the battle honours for Moro and Gibralter and is surmounted by the Queens crown , all in silver ( white metal ) but probably cast sterling silver. The roman numerals LVI in matted silver are at the bottom of the plate.
The reverse shows two hooks and button for attachment to the baldrick buff leather sword belt and good gilt overspill is visible on the edges as one would expect to see.
Overall the shoulder belt plate is in very good condition.
