A 45th or (Nottinghamshire) Regiment of Foot Officer’s Shoulder Belt Plate

A very rare 45th or Nottinghamshire regiment of foot officers shoulder belt plate worn between 1830 and 1855.
The gilt burnished back plate supports a large silver (white metal) hobnail effect star over which is fitted a circular gilt strap with the words 1st Nottinghamshire Reg and in the centre on a domed gilt disc the arabic numerals for 45.
The strap is surmounted by a Queen Victoria crown and from the strap fourteen individual battle honours extend outwards on arms. At the bottom is a flowing ribbon with a further battle honour for Peninsula all in gilt.
The reverse of the plate has two hooks and buttons for attachment to a buff leather sword belt or baldrich and shows evidence of giilt overspill. Overall a very nice condition shoulder belt plate to a very respected Peninsula War regiment.
