44th or East Essex Regiment of Foot Officer`s Waterloo Medal1815

A highly desirable Waterloo medal awarded to Ensign Alexander Wilson ( impressed Willson on medal ) 2nd Batt 44th Regiment of Foot or East Essex Regiment with a contemporary white metal broach and matching straight bar suspender for attachment to the coatee.

Wilson joined the regiment in May 1814 and at the time of Waterloo was the second junior Ensign in the battalion and as such probably carried the regimental colours during the battle in which he was subsequently wounded. The regiment suffered 54% casualties amongst its officer corps. Wilson is shown as still serving in 1830.
