A 102nd Royal Madras Fusiliers Officer`s Grenade badge

A wonderful and very scarce Officer`s 102nd Royal Madras Fusiliers Foreign Service Helmet grenade of two part construction retaining virtually all its original fire gilding and fixing lugs. This pattern of grenade was worn in India until 1868 when the 102nd was posted to the UK. At this point the regiment would have adopted the raccoon fur cap bearing the taller grenade.
The helmet badge would have again been worn when the 102nd were subsequently posted to Gibralter in 1876, then Ceylon until 1881 when the 102nd became the 1st battalion Royal Dubliin Fusiliers.
