76th Regiment of Foot Officers Shoulder Belt Plate 1845-1855

A 76th Regiment of Foot Officer’s shoulder belt plate worn between 1845 - 1855 comprising a matted gilt back plate with a raised burnished rim. The design was mounted on a silver cut star and cross and had the elephant in burnished silver and the number LXXVI in silver with a matted surface.
The crown, wreath and scrolls were in bright gilt. As with this example some versions are known to have the elephant without the howdath cloth .
The reverse retains its original leather backing with age discoloring and evidence of fire gilt overspill to the brass plate. Overall a very pleasing example of this impressive shoulder belt plate.
