8th or Kings Regiment Officer’s Shoulder Belt Plate

An 8th or Kings Regiment officer’s shoulder belt plate worn prior to 1855 and comprising a burnished gilt plate with the design in dead gilt of a large oval garter strap with the words HONI SOIT QUI MAY PENSE. At the top of the strap is a QVC crown and a ribbon with KINGS in old gothic script. In the center is a silver (white metal) horse of Hanover with the motto NEC ASPERA TERRENT and below the Roman numerals for VIII on a rich crimson velvet back ground. Beneath the strap is a large Sphinx with Egypt below.
The reverse shows age discoloration and some gilt overspill and retains its original hooks and studs. Overall a very impressive and very scarce shoulder belt plate in absolutely wonderful condition.
