31st or Huntingdonshire Regiment of Foot Officers Shoulder Belt Plate

A 31st or Huntingdonshire Regiment of Foot officer’s shoulder belt plate worn between 1847 and 1855. The burnished gilt backing plate has the design in silver of XXXI within a crowned garter inscribed “Huntingdonshire” with a laurel wreath around which numerous battle honors are interwoven. The Afghan honors were authorised in 1842 and the Sikh honors in 1847 thus providing a reliable dating range.
The reverse retains its hooks and studs and has its original leather backing with evidence of gilt overspill. Overall a very nice example with very good detail to the silver ornamentation and little signs of wear to the burnished back plate.
