Coldstream Guards Officer’s Pagri Foreign Service Pattern Helmet Star

A Coldstream Guards Officer’s Pagri helmet star worn on the foreign service helmet in the last quarter of the nineteenth century and first quarter of the twentieth century comprising a silver (white metal) eight pointed faceted star with a rich gilt garter strap in the center with the Latin inscription HONI SOIT QUI MALY PENSE which translates into “shame on him who thinks evil of it”. In the center is a red enamel Cross of St. George on a silver cut ground. The star for this example appears to be a cast sterling silver version but not hallmarked.
The reverse has its original fixings lugs at 9.00 and 3.0 and a central disc which secures the garter strap in position. Overall a very nice condition plate and rare to find.
