Bengal Horse Artillery Undress Uniform group
A Bengal Horse Artillery Officer`s undress uniform group circa 1840`s comprising a dark blue forage cap with a gold embroidered peak and lace band around the waist of the cap piped in red at the crown.
A dark blue melton cloth jacket with red collar and cuffs elaborately embroidered with gold Russia braid tracings and false Austrian knot designs. Plaited cord epaulettes with the correct regimental button and faced in red melton cloth and a pair of dark blue ( nearly black) overalls with a double red line down each outer seam.
A white buff leather pouch belt and black leather pouch complete the group.
Known as the "red men" because of their red flowing horse hair mane on the full dress helmet most of the units were absorbed into the Royal Horse Artillery after the Indian Mutiny.
Overall in very good condition and exceptionally rare to find.
