88th or Connaught Rangers Regiment Shoulder Belt Plate

An Officer’s 88th or Connaught Rangers Regiment shoulder belt plate circa 1840 comprising a gilt matted back plate with burnished edges mounted with an elaborate silver (white metal) hobnail star with eleven Peninsula War honours on flat rays forming part of the silver star. Surmounted on the star is a shamrock wreath topped with a QVC crown and below the motto QUIS SEPARABIT. In the centre is a circular strap with the voided words Connaught Rangers and the Arabic numerals 88 on a silver background.
The reverse retains its original leather liner and hooks and buttons and shows good gilt overspill and age discolouration commensurate with age.
A pleasing and rare to find shoulder belt plate to one of Irelands Iconic regiments.
