An Officer’s 21st or Royal North British Fusiliers Regiment of Foot Shoulder Belt Plate worn between 1830 and 1846 comprising a matted gilt back plate with a silver (white metal but probably sterling silver) flaming grenade device. In the centre of the ball the Arabic numerals for 21 surrounded by the motto NEC ASPERA TERRENT and above this a QVC crown.
The reverse retains its original hooks and studs for attachment to a white baldrick and shows good evidence of gilt overspill underneath a leather liner.
