1st or Royal Regiment of Foot Shoulder Belt Plate

A 1st or Royal Regiment of Foot Officer’s Shoulder Belt Plate worn between 1844 and 1855 and comprising a gilt matted back plate with burnished edges, in the centre a gilt St Andrew within an oval on a rich dark blue enamel background. At the bottom half of the oval a scroll inscribed “THE ROYAL REGIMENT”, the design all in gilt on a silver cut star over a gilt brass slip.
The reverse retains its original hooks and buttons and shows evidence of good gilt overspill to the edges of the plate together with its original leather liner.
Overall the plate is in very nice condition with minor signs of wear, the enamel is undamaged.
