79th Cameron Highlanders 1856 Pattern Doublet

A 79th or Cameron Highlanders exceedingly rare 1856 pattern officer`s doublet comprising a single breasted scarlet melton cloth doublet with with white piping and green facings which have faded slightly in one or two places. There is evidence to suggest that the collar had a bath star and crown rank insignia applied denoting a Lt Colonel. Curiously the twist cord epaulettes are secured by a large button with one button absent.
This is the pattern of jacket that would have been worn by the regiment during the Indian Mutiny.
Overall the doublet is in very nice condition and with a bit of TLC would be a wonderful addition to any early Scottish collection.
