40th ( 2nd Somersetshire) Regiment of Foot Officers Shoulder belt Plate

A 40th (2nd Somersetshire) Regiment of Foot battalion company officer`s shoulder belt plate worn between 1840 and 1855 and comprising a gilt brass back plate ( most of the original fire gilt is now absent) on which resides a fourteen point hobnail star with the regiments many battle honors in each of the rays.
In the center is a garter strap with 2nd Somersetshire surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves with further battle honors and topped by a QVC crown which retains about 80% of its gilt and in the center on a silver disc the Arabic numerals for 40
Overall condition is fair and would benefit from a good clean
