A very scarce Companion of Bath chapel stall plate to Lt. Col Neil MacKellar 1st or Royal Scots Regiment of Foot. The rectangular brass plaque is typical of shape and is deeply engraved with MacKellarís name, regiment and date nominated together with a painted colour version of the Companion of Bath military order.
Neil MacKellar joined the 1st or Royal Scots as an Ensign in 1789 rising to Lieutenant in 1791 , Captain in 1795 , Major in1804 and Lt.Col in 1810 finally becoming its Colonel in 1819. MacKellar was nomimated for a CB for services in the xxxxx he died in 1837 and thus never lived to receive a Military General Service Medal 1794-1814 for his services in the Peninsula War.
The dark marks shown on the stall plate are reflections, the plate is in very good condition but would benefit from a clean if your preference is for a bright brass appearance
