A Miniature of an Officer in the 3rd or East Kent Regiment of Foot circa 1830`s
A very well executed large size portrait miniature on ivory of a battalion company officer in the 3rd or East Kent Regiment of Foot circa 1830’s in a contemporary gilt and gesso frame.
The unidentified sitter can be accurately dated to the 1830’s by virtue of his shoulder belt plate which had been replaced by another design in the 1840’s. Although unidentified the artist clearly had a very capable hand and the degree of detail evident is extremely pleasing.
Nicknamed the “Buffs” the East Kent regiment of Foot were extensively involved in both the Peninsula War and the Crimean war. They bore the motto “Invicta” meaning unconquered.
